A woman allegedly shot by Lamu Senator, Anwar Loitiptip, has agreed to an out of court settlement of the matter after the parties signed an agreement on Thursday, October 28.

According to reports, Senator Loitiptip, who is accused of shooting the lady on Sunday, October 24, after an altercation between the two in Nanyuki, is said to have made the move first to have the matter settled amicably out of court.

The Senator agreed to take care of the woman’s medical bills and support her family too, an agreement that saw the lady withdraw the case officially.

“We have reached an out of court settlement with the person I had complained against and I do not wish to further pursue any charges against the accused person."

"This agreement is entered into without undue influence, coercion or misrepresentation and is binding to the parties," an excerpt of the agreement read.

Both parties had been reported to have lodged different complaints at the Nanyuki Police Station.

Officers who rushed to the scene detailed that they recovered two spent cartridges and seized the firearm from Loitiptip’s aide. By then, Makena had been rushed for treatment at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The victim, in a candid interview, alleged that she was injured after attempting to rescue another woman who was reportedly being assaulted by the Senator. Makena was in the company of her husband, Jaso Turo.

She added that the woman, however, cautioned them to flee when she saw the Senator heading to his vehicle to pick his gun.

The two scampered for safety as Loitiptip allegedly chased after them into a bar near Kanu Grounds in Nanyuki, where the shooting incident occurred.

On Monday, Loitiptip was arraigned before Nanyuki Resident Magistrate, Vincent Masivo, where he was accused of unlawful use of firearms. The Senator was released on a Ksh500,000 cash bail or Ksh1 million bond.
