Martin Kamotho alias Githeri man has opened up on his relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta, five years after he received the Head of State Commendation (HSC).

Speaking during an interview on Friday, March 25, Kamotho revealed that he still maintains close ties with the President, describing him as a good friend.

The Nairobi County government employee disclosed that he often talks to the President through his aide, crediting Uhuru for always replying to his messages.

"I do greet him using the phone through his driver. I like him very much because even when I send a message, he will always respond," he stated.

Kamotho nostalgically remembered his one-on-one meeting with Uhuru at State House, stating that it was a lifetime opportunity.

Githeri man became an internet sensation after images of him eating succotash while queuing to vote during the 2017 presidential election went viral on social media.

"I have met with him on two occasions. The first time was when he invited me for lunch at State House and the second time was when he was giving me the HSC," he stated.

However, Githeri man added that he has not been back to State House despite Uhuru extending an open invitation to him.

"There is always a way of doing things at State House. You cannot just go there if you have not been invited. Others go as groups like musicians, but for me, I am just somebody who ate Githeri, there is no group for that. Getting to State House is no joke."

Nonetheless, he refuted claims that he was given money by Uhuru during the meetings, adding that many people believe that he was given millions by the Head of State.

Kamotho disclosed that he is often ridiculed for living in the low income estate of Kayole despite being famous. He stated that he cannot live beyond his means.

"I was not given money by the President. All I had at State House was lunch. That is something that I cannot lie about. What happens is that when I go somewhere, people give me money like Ksh500 and that is it.

'If I decided to move to a leafy suburb because I am famous, that would affect me. Let's say I move to a house of Ksh20,000 and my salary does not even get there, I will be affected," he stated.
