Beer Distributors Gang Up Against EABL

Keroche Breweries Distributors Association has come out to defend the alcoholic beverage manufacturer after East African Breweries accused it of trademark infringement by using similar bottles to distribute beer.

In a statement released on Friday, December 20, 2019, the association accused EABL of using its dominance to edge out its rivals.

East African Breweries had gone to court seeking an injunction against Keroche over its use of brown beer bottles.

Below is the complete press statement by Keroche Breweries Distributors Association.

We wish to alert Kenyans on the notice posted in today’s dailies by our multinational competitor East African Breweries Ltd.

The notice announces an alleged injunction obtained by EABL stopping Keroche Breweries from using the international Euro bottles that are used to package our Summit Lager, KB Lager and Viena Ice.

This defies belief. The Euro bottle does not belong to anyone. It is a universal bottle. The brown beer bottles are not available to any beer manufacturer to patent or pretend to trademark. We are going to court to challenge EABL for engraving the mark EABL on a bottle they do own.

Secondly, we are suing EABL for trying to destroy local business through this restrictive trade practice. The notice is further evidence of attempts by EABL to restore a monopoly in Kenya’s brewing industry. EABL and Diageo, their foreign owner should realise the era of monopolies is over in Kenya. They can do this in other African countries. We will not allow them to do it in Kenya. This is our country.

Putting the EABL mark on a brown Euro bottle can only be done in a country where people don’t know their rights. You cannot put your mark on a bottle you did not create and do not own. The brown Euro bottles EABL and Keroche are using existed before the two companies were even created.

We are asking the government of Kenya not to fall into this obvious trap. This notice is meant to use the police to harass our customers who are bar owners so they are scared into not buying Keroche Breweries beers during this festive season.

The intention is to give EABL a market they have lost to Keroche Breweries through our hard work. This is shameful and cannot be allowed. We will fight this. The timing is highly suspicious. It is Christmas and this is the high season for alcohol purchase. Kenyans should note that the EABL notice posted today(Friday, December 21, 2019) states that the order was obtained in 2017. Why release it two years later?

As distributors, we are clearly aware that this is to slow down or stop Keroche’s Breweries latest brand “KB Lager” which has become the most popular lager in the market. Instead of competing with its superior appeal to Kenyans, they would rather stop the company from bottling it.

As Keroche Breweries Distributors Association, our members have made huge orders of KB Lager and Summit Lager to service the huge demand for these popular brands during the Christmas holiday season. We know what you did to anyone who attempted to challenge your monopoly.

You destroyed them using your money, your influence over the legal system and government officials. We are asking all our members and millions of Kenyans who consume our beers to take a firm stand against this evil scheme to use the backdoor to fight a local company.

EABL has never not shied away from using their dominant position to stifle fair competition and drive out competitors unfairly. Stand with Keroche and stand with us local business people. Prove Kenyans cannot be easily shaken. Kenya ni yetu. Have a Merry Christmas. Please don’t drink and drive.

Family Pressure to Marry Opens Up a Can of Worms

So you are sitting there staring at your phone. Scrolling through all the contacts. Pausing whenever a familiar name comes up. Your phonebook is a graveyard of dead relationships. You are 38 and still single. Not even a girlfriend to speak of.

Every time you attend a relative’s wedding your aunties come up to you and say “You are next!” this always rubs you the wrong way. They only stopped when you started saying the same thing to them at funerals. You got too irritable.

Rocket science seems quite easy compared to navigating the complex terrain of modern romance. Ghosting, blue ticks and good old radio silence are the order of the day.

Our parents and their parents before them had it easy. You saw a girl you liked down at the river. You told your parents about it or an uncle. A little background search was done: you know to check for a history of witchcraft and of course to make sure you don't marry your cousin - you were happy being innocently basic.

Then your people and her people sat down to talk logistics. Sometimes, she wasn't even consulted in the whole matter. I know it was mean and unfair but the system worked. She would start out hating you but 4 years and 4 children later all those were a distant memory.

You were getting all the right signals from this Linda you met at the local supermarket. The tiny thing is more of a corner shop really. That rainy evening you were in the tomato sauce aisle you both reached out for the last bottle at the same time. You were not going to let anyone get between you and your favorite brand. You both just stood there, daring the other to back down.

When that didn't work, you resorted to negotiation. “I really need this bottle” you muttered to break the silence. “I’m sure your cooking is not as bad as mine. You don't need this stuff.”

This comment was received with a smile. A smile that stirred something in the deepest corners of your soul.  That day you missed out on that precious commodity but gained something more. A chance at a relationship. Gentleman, they say?

Your situation wasn’t always this dire. You can recall (vaguely) a time when your problem was settling on one woman from the endless stream of admirers that begged for your attention.

Then you met your ex.  A month into the relationship and you both realised you were not right for each other. Your break-up was as bad as the fallout. About 3 months after moving to the next guy, she got really ill. With what? You had no idea. Rumours spread like wildfire about the current state of your Ex.

You didn't care so much about it until you realised that all your dates vanished without explanation. Things are going great with Linda and you won't let her slip through your fingers. If only there was a way to settle all this.

You have thought about visiting the local clinic with all your candidates but that would only fuel the story. Then you remember about all these conversations about #ChukuaSelfie or Radio, TV, YouTube, your favorite websites etc.  HIV self-testing would solve both your problems. The privacy of knowing your results is undeniably alluring.  You rush to the local chemist and get two #OraQuick kits. You call her on your way back.

“You would do that for me?” she asks barely hiding her joy. You agree that she visits your place for the tests.

You are tense but determined to do it right. You both follow the instructions in the manual carefully. When it is done, you both sit back and wait. You look at her and she reassuringly presses your palm. Then 20 minutes later you are good to check out the results.

‘Two-lines means POSITIVE...ONE LINE means Negative’ you remind her…. Two, Three One! You both reveal your results to each other simultaneously.

You stare at the results, then at each other. And finally back at the manual to be sure. Without another word, you both collapse on the bed.

NOW THINK ABOUT IT...

This could really be you. And you are wondering, where can I #ChukuaSelfie? Well, never worry, apart from the self-test kits being available at your local chemist, you can avoid all the scrutiny from nosey over-the-counter customers, the attendants and neighbours by ordering online and get it delivered discreetly to your house.

On #MyDawa and #KASHA, you get a whopping 15% discount by purchasing either the #oralkit if you are repelled by needle pricks or the regular blood test if you are brave enough to prick your finger.

What If your results turn out positive on the #ChukuaSelfie? Usipanic! Relax, and visit a professional testing centre for a confirmatory tests because it is possible to have a false-positive result. You can also call 1190 to speak to a counsellor discreetly.

If the results turn out negative, you still have to continue practicing safe sex and self-testing yourself and your partner(s) regularly.

Wacha stress. #ChukuaSelfie - enjoy life.

Why Should You Invest in Your Child’s Future Without a Professional Learning Prescription?

What Next After Primary or High School Examination Results? Finding Success With Your Unique and Natural Talent

With just-released Primary and soon-to-be-released Secondary School Examination results, conversations in most neighbourhoods are either geared towards establishing how the obedient child performed or if the naughty pupil with a natural affinity for trouble finally proved the critics right.

For parents, the more immediate concern is the secondary schools or college or university their children will join, plans for fees and the possibility of bagging a scholarship among other logistical concerns.

The excitement around exams has been ingrained in our African culture - year after year, we celebrate top performers with the most anticipated question being what careers they intend to pursue. Traditionally respected careers in engineering, medicine and law are often fronted as the obvious career paths to yearn for.

Amidst this commotion and emphasis on grades, the role talent plays in making career choices is either completely forgotten or brushed over. Understandably, between putting food on the table and working hard for their future, parents hardly ever have enough time to get involved in their kids' lives and figure out their talents.

At school, the next site where talents could have been identified and nurtured also doesn’t offer much to elevate these natural interests into formidable career paths at an early age.

The unfortunate end product of the current curriculum is that children are pushed into career paths that they don't really have a passion for, let alone talent to succeed in them. They end up pursuing post-secondary programmes that they hate. What is left is the regret of the many years wasted!

What Really is Talent?

Talent is generally defined as the innate ability or natural endowment for accomplishment in any given field. This is an oversimplification. What most people mistake as talents or gifts are actually manifestations of the talent. Sports, art, poetry, dance, comedy, etc which are merely exhibited opportunities of talent, are themselves seen at the talent.

This is wrong as “talent is you with your unique metric values” that can be unearthed through Professional and Scientific Assessment of Talent.

With the advancement in technology, you can now unearth true human values that define talent and giftedness hence you will be able to know the career of your child 4-year old some 20-30 years in advance.

How does talent differ from a gift?

Every human has his/her own unique values. Therefore, everyone has a talent. So talent is not limited to sports, comedy, music, etc. There is talent in all spheres including science, languages, etc

However, some people may have dominant talent values in many domains, which are active in the real world. Such are rare people and constitute just about 12% of the world population. Such people are the ones defined as gifted.

If it is found, after Professional Assessment of Talent, that one is gifted, The World Talent Federation and associates, will immediately swing into action to protect and provide for them as such people are the ones who will plan our future politics, economies and social destinies. Such provisions may include full scholarships to Ivy League Universities or cash rewards to help you lift off your gifted enterprises. That is why, for example, today,  you see very young kids under 10 years achieving degrees while being fully sponsored financially.

But it must be pointed out that being academically bright DOES NOT mean that you are gifted much as it could be.

What is Professional Talent and Gift Assessment?

To unearth an individual’s talent, professional screening and assessment must be undertaken. It is very similar to what happens when you walk into a hospital for a check-up.

It works in the same way doctors recommend scientific tests after preliminary reviews. From the results, doctors can either confirm or dismiss certain illnesses.

This Professional Assessment of Talent is structured into three important steps;

What next after Professional and Scientific Assessment of Talent?

After the assessment, a Talent Report (like a medical report from doctors) will be generated by the experts containing the career domains forecast and related delimiters and shared with interested parties like the talent developers, educators, mentors and interested parties.

From here, a Learning Prescription (like a medical prescription from doctors) will next be generated by Specific Talent Experts that will be used to guide the talent development process.  It includes necessary intellectual/academic schemes alongside your prior achievements.

Talent Based Learning

The Talent Development process, above, is what constitutes the Talent Based Learning (TBL).

Unlike academic or symptom-based learning processes (e.g Competence-Based and/or Ability / Passion/Interest-Based Learning, etc ) that emphasize on specific outcomes like grades, TBL is based on the concept of ‘there must be a professional medical assessment before prescription’.

Talent thus becomes the driver for passion/competence/ interest, etc resulting in ‘intuitive learning’ rather than ‘academic learning for grades’.

In TBL, the career of a learner is known beforehand and the learning process assembles learning kits that best match the learning, product and expression styles of the learner (the Talent/Learning Prescription).

It further connects learners with specific experts in their talent genres and domains. So, you naturally evolved through your unique talent.

Talent Based Learning Experts

Expert trainers or educators in Talent Development, as well as mentors, are used to develop specific talent through the prescription. Academic clinics may also equally be used.

For specific talent genres and domains, Talent experts in the specific talent are invited to provide specialized guide, advice and interventions.

Obtaining your degree through Talent Based Learning – The Credit Transfer

During the talent development and academic clinics sessions and tasks, “credit values” emerge. Experts in non-verbal assessments determine the credits and normalise them. Credits are then transferable for awards e.g diplomas, degrees in Member Universities that understand TBL. Fame Awards will also be issued.

Member Universities are those that have signed with World Talent Federation specifically agreeing that a Talent Report together with Talent/Learning Prescriptions, can be used for admission even if there are “low” or “ no” grades from traditional education systems. There are currently 147 such universities which are accredited and listed by UNESCO hence worldwide acceptance and recognition of their final documents in the forms of diplomas, bachelors, masters or doctoral degrees obtained via the Talent Based Learning process.

Schedule a Professional Talent Assessment Today Online

In Africa, The Gates Africa Group offers this Professional Talent Assessment and undertakes Talent Based Learning.

You can start this Professional and Scientific Assessment of Talent online (for children, teenagers, youth and adults)

Is this Assessment of Talent only for children? Can adults also be assessed?

The good old days when graduates would have plum jobs waiting for them are long gone. Pursuing a college degree/diploma or forcing your child to take a course because of their grades, or lack of it is a sure recipe for disaster.

Professional Talent Assessment is open to all ages. The assessment is done slightly different for children (4-12 years), Teenagers ( 13-19 years), Youth (20-30years) and adults ( over 30 years).

For adults, it further includes evaluation of your work and life experience to determine “prior credits” based on the said life and work experience (visit www.cael-africa.org for more information).

It is important, thus, that everyone knows their “full and true” God-Given Value (known as talent) before embarking on any learning system. Otherwise, you will be like someone swimming in the ocean without a destination or someone investing in a business without a business plan or a doctor providing an injection without any pre-diagnosis.

Selfie Expert Strikes Again! And It's The Best End-Year Gift Ever [VIDEO]

Is there anything more disappointing than a blurry selfie with the celebrity whom you’ve always wanted to show off to your friends? In a fleeting second, you managed to capture their attention to pose for a picture for your Instagram stories.

But alas! The faces are not recognisable in the dull light and you only took one picture!

If this is your many nights out where you had hoped to make a social statement, you need an upgrade. Don’t worry though the Oppo Reno2 F has got your back.

The Reno2 F is equipped with the most powerful night mode camera. With Ultra Night Mode 2.0, the gadget offers greater adaptability to a wider range of lighting intensity and light ratios. This new feature means no more ghost images even in low light - simply put, no more bad pictures!

It’s this particular phone's 48MP Quad camera that could very well see it dominate the market.

The pop-up camera (which is a really cool feature) packs a powerful punch with crisp portraits photos, capable of producing soft and scenic backgrounds, while still maintaining a sharp-looking subject and with crystal-clear skin tones and a rich vein of detail.

Its ingenious ultra-large aperture -f/1.79, has been crafted to add dimension to your photos by giving you control over the depth of field.

Black tones are well-defined, whites are bright yet clear, while the rest of the colour gamut is clean-cut.

Reno2 F's cameras produce detailed and vibrant shots, even under challenging conditions, making it the ideal partner to bring along on those weekend road trips.

The phone has a distinctive portrait mode feature dubbed ‘Portrait Bokeh, which gives one the ability to adjust the level of blur before taking a shot, bringing some much-needed artistry to phone photography.

When it comes to design, Reno F2 brings home the gold when compared to its direct competitors - this is mostly due to its unbroken panel of the screen, with no cameras or notches.

Its 6.5-inch AMOLED Gorilla Glass display used on the Reno 2 looks rather good due to the sheer uninterrupted canvas that it offers due to the all-screen design.

When you flip the sleek handset over, the first thing that stands out is the constellation of cameras.

However, what makes its seemingly simple design stand head and shoulders above the competition, is the fact that the cameras are buried within the device, giving it a very flat and seamless profile.

Notably, the phone has a fast-charging 3.0 charging port, which allows for up to 51% charge in as little as 30 minutes, allowing for 13 hours of continuous video playback.

The Reno2 F hits a nice balance between price, performance and cool, yet practical features - packing 8GB worth of RAM and 128GB ROM.

Equipped with the ColorOS 6, users are guaranteed the most intelligent system experience, featuring a whole new customizable interface, from the home page to app icons, font sizes and background colours t.

With an in-built game assistant streamlined notification management, screen record and other specialized shortcuts, this new phone makes it super easy to check and reply to messages quickly while gaming.

Think the phone couldn't get any cooler? Think again. The Reno2 F is fitted with Dolby Atmos - the future of sound technology.

The intricate configuration of this particular system results in a sound that feels as though it’s coming from the room you’re sitting in. Raindrops can be heard hitting individual leaves, helicopters sound as though they’re flying above you.

Its in-built Smart Video Editor (SOLOOP), will change the way users edit their videos with sleek easy to use templates.

The feature automatically recognizes 80 different scenes including animals, plants, and nature and neatly categorizes all of your life's precious moments, making accessibility as easy as A, B, C.

In terms of security, the phone has a hidden fingerprint unlock 3.0 system that will ensure no one gets to go through your personal files and photos without consent.

Speaking of safety, the phone has a unique feature dubbed ‘Riding Mode’. Upon activation, the phone automatically texts back to decline calls and mutes all notifications, to allow the user to focus when out on the road.

The phone also has a Smart System Management which intelligently stops the apps which have been idle for a while in order to save power, for longer battery life.

Retailing at Ksh39,999, you can get the phone in two ways either by pre-ordering at various outlets in the country or by purchasing in the outlets from This Date.

What’s not to like!
