On Friday, the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Musalia Mudavadi announced that President William Ruto was among the Heads of Government invited to a summit in Switzerland.
According to PCS Musalia, the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, which will take place on June 15 and 16, will explore ways to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Mudavadi made the statement after meeting members of the European Union Delegation in Nairobi led by Ambassador Henriette Geiger.
“The Summit seeks to provide a platform for high-level discussions on topics of global interest such as nuclear security, food security and freedom of navigation, and humanitarian issues,” the Prime Cabinet Secretary briefed Kenyans.
Heads of State and Government attending the summit will also create a common understanding at the highest political level for a comprehensive, just and durable peace in Ukraine based on the UN Charter.
Lastly, PCS Musalia noted that the summit would also initiate a process towards peace by discussing for the first time at the highest political level a roadmap on how to involve both parties in such a process.
“The President has been invited, among other Heads of State and Government to participate at the Summit,” Mudavadi spoke of Ruto’s invite.
Mudavadi, who is also the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, acknowledged the summit's importance and informed the EU delegation that the invite would be given due consideration.
He further assured the delegation that Kenya was committed to a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
To that end, Ruto’s administration continued to to appeal for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through a diplomatic dialogue.
President Ruto has reiterated on multiple occasions that Kenya’s foreign policy is based on peaceful dialogue between conflicting groups.
In addition to Ukraine and Russia, President Ruto has also called for a peaceful resolution in ongoing conflicts in Sudan and South Sudan.
