Kalonzo Advised on What to do Before 2022 Presidential Election

Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Amani National Coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi have been advised to push through with their pursuit of electoral justice if they intend to have a free and fair election in 2022.

Highlighting in his Sunday column, human rights activist Maina Kiai advised any prospective presidential candidate to join the groups pushing for electoral reforms.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, his counterpart Hassan Joho and KANU chairman Gideon Moi, all who have shown interest in the top job, were warned that it will be a waste of time, money and energy if they pursue the seat without pursuing electoral reforms, as it will be an already decided cause.

The co-director of the Kenyan NGO Inform Action noted: "It is a fact that the structure of the electoral system in the country is seriously wanting, and only produces numbers that are convenient for those in power."

Mr Kiai stated: "If there is no progress on electoral reforms and justice this year, you can kiss your ambitions goodbye. Time is of essence."

He dismissed also calls by the United States ambassador that elections are over and the country should focus on development or something else.

"That he (the ambassador) speaks the language of Jubilee speaks volumes about his motives. He wants calm, not justice.

"Because of the lack of electoral justice, all cards are in the hands of the person in defacto per today," he asserted.

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga, together with all the National Resistance Movement (NRMmembers have been pushing for electoral reforms following the August 8 elections which they claim were rigged.

NRM is, therefore, planning for the swearing-in of Odinga with his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka on January 30 by the People's Assembly as one way to ensure electoral reforms and justice is achieved.
