Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, went out guns blazing and blasted The Star newspaper for character assassination after they published a story alleging that City Hall was in turmoil.
Sonko took to social media on Wednesday night, September 26, to angrily tear into Thursday, September 26, publication which he accused of defending one of the officials he suspended.
The governor on Wednesday, September 26, suspended Charles Keter and 15 other officials, after a primary school tragedy in Nairobi, where a class collapsed on students killing seven and injuring more than 50.
"When President Uhuru suspended his Finance & Treasury CS Henry Rotich and Treasury PS Kimani Thugge, and over 20 Treasury and Government officials including NEMA Director-General on 25th July 2019, the Star did not report a crisis in the Country.
"When Governors Stephen Sang (Nandi), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) and Anyang Nyong'o (Kisumu), crack their whip in their governments, The Star did not report of crisis in those counties," Sonko ranted on Facebook.
He went on to reveal that they only targeted him after he suspended Kerich, a former editor at Radio Africa Group.
"Charles Kerich and his cronies at The Star should know better, no amount of blackmails or character assassinations can ever deter me in doing what I believe is right and in best interests of Nairobi Residents," Sonko blasted.
Kerich had been a regular face in the city county's government with the governor standing by him even when changes were taking place within his county leadership.
Kerich has served in different media houses even before graduating with a Bachelor's Degree from Daystar University in 2006.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Monday, September 23, closed Precious Talent School in Dagoretti South Constituency where a two-storey building collapsed killing seven pupils.
