Nation Media Group (NMG) staff gave their colleague Jane Ngoiri an emotional sendoff during her final bulletin on Saturday, January 30.
Ngoiri proceeded to give her farewell address after finishing her broadcast and minutes after the bulletin went off air, her colleagues surprised her with a cake while ushering the moment with songs and dance.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, colleagues such as Olive Burrows, Joshua Makori, producers and camera crew took turns giving their remarks on the celebrated news anchor.
They described her as a hardworking and dedicated journalist who was committed to her craft.
In her final speech, Ngoiri thanked her colleagues for the sendoff and also for being a cornerstone during her trying times.
"I remember losing my dad in 2014, the NTV family stood with me during the whole time... that is the family NTV has become..I am glad that this journey has brought me here," Ngoiri stated.
Ngoiri resigned from the media station on Wednesday, January 28. She confirmed leaving NTV in order to pursue personal projects and affirmed that she would disclose her next move to her fans on social media.
The Swahili news anchor joined NMG in 2012 from K24 where she worked as an English news anchor.
Known for her eloquence in the Swahili language, the news anchor will also be remembered for her investigative pieces that gained traction online such as Sisters of Death and Nairobi’s Bum Enhancers.
During her time with NTV, she co-anchored the Swahili news with Nimrod Taabu and later on partnered with Salim Swaleh.
In December 2020, she was also among the 158 civilians who were awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSc) by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
