Multi-agency police units raided two areas in Turkana County, hunting for suspects linked to highway robbery.
The wanted suspect was apprehended during the raid carried out by a contingent of cops in Kapelbok and Jiluk areas on Saturday, September 3.
Police explained that the wanted criminal was part of a syndicate robbing motorists on different highways and even staging banditry attacks, was found in possession of AK-47 rifle.
The law enforcement officers also recovered a military jacket in his house.
The raid followed a tip-off from the members of the public who had raised concerns over increasing cases of highway robbery, banditry attacks and gun violence.
"He has been placed in custody at Lokichar Police Station," the police statement read in part.
Other suspects linked to the gang were said to be still at large.
However, the law enforcement officers announced an operation to flush them out and restore order.
The arrest comes just days after at least 35 houses in the area were torched by the bandits. During the incident, seven civilians were also injured.
Police explained that the attackers fled to Naskieni hills in Turkana East.
"I have lost my family members and now they have even taken my property, I just want the government to interneve," one of the victimes stated.
The troubled zones have experienced calmness after National Police Service (NPS) deployed teams to the area.
