Aden Duale to Lead National Assembly in Rejecting Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka Nominees to EALA

Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale has vowed to lead the House in rejecting the Opposition's picks for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) when Parliament resumes on Tuesday.

The Garissa Township legislator maintained that the nominees, Dr Oburu Odinga and Kennedy Musyoka, were picked based on their family relation to Opposition leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka

"You cannot use your position in political parties that you run to reward your sons and brothers," he emphasized during a Citizen TV interview.

Duale added that Dr Oburu's nomination by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was surprising since he did not represent any special group.

"We in the 11th parliament were shocked that Dr Oburu was nominated. It was not on gender, not on marginalised groups, not on disability so whodoes he represent?" Duale questioned.

Dr Oburu has since rejected the ODM nomination in a press statement that urged the Jubilee party to propose someone else in his place.

Deputy Leader of the Wiper party, Farah Maalim defended the party's pick noting that Kalonzo's son is fit for the task given his background in Law.

EALA is the legislative arm of the East African Community (EAC) where each member state is required to nominate 9 representatives.

"We will not allow President Uhuru Kenyatta to do it, we will not allow William Ruto to do it and we will not allow Raila and Kalonzo to do it," Duale maintained.
