Hussein Khalid

Hussein Khalid, Executive Director of HAKI, amplified his voice during the June 2024 Gen Z protests. His activism led to his arrest in October while honouring youths who lost their lives during the protests.

On 29th November 2024, Khalid was named Human Rights Defender of the Year at the HRD Awards. He was honoured alongside Boniface Mwangi and Haniffa Adan for their roles in the protests that resulted in the withdrawal of the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Phyllis Omido

Phyllis Omido became famous after her spirited fight against a coast-based lead smelter, consequently leading to its closure. 

She came to learn about the hazards the smelter posed after she was employed by the company as a manager for the plant’s community relations. 

Wala Amakove

Wala Amakove is a resourceful Medical Doctor (MBChB) and Health Programs Manager with over 15 years’ experience in health programs design, management, and implementation.

She is known to be an accomplished leader and key contributor to the development of several guidelines, health bills, and health sector policies.

Josephine Kulea

Josephine Kulea formed the Samburu Girls Foundation in 2012 with the aim of helping girls from her community against undergoing Female Genital Mutilation. 

Her efforts in protecting the girls saw her receive recognition from the then Us ambassador to Kenya, Micheal Rannerberger.

Mike Mutungi is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of I Choose Life-Africa.

He is also the chairman of Health NGO Network (HENNET), founding member of Jiinue Credit Company Limited and Ebatech Engineering Company Limited.

Nivi Mukherjee

Nivi Mukherjee is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the founder of eLimu.

She is a social entrepreneur, technophile and community volunteer passionate about empowering youth and engaging in community initiatives that foster development and fun.
