Kenya's politics has over the years gained prestigious accolades from all sorts of people following the fame and income that it generates to those who get into the various positions.

Over the years, Kenyans have always focused on the political life of the personalities with little known about the social intrigues of these politicians.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's political career has tremendously grown since his entrance into active politics as Kenya African National Union (KANU) chairman in his hometown, Gatundu.

He has risen from just being Kenya's first President's son to being the most powerful person in the Country by virtue of his office.

Like many other political figures in Kenya, Kenyatta's journey to the top has seen him go through a phase of growth.

Before his admission to Amherst College in the United States, he worked as a bank teller at the Kenya Commercial Bank where he was paid 600 shillings per month.

Upon his graduation, he returned to Kenya and started a company, Wilham Kenya Limited, through which he sourced and exported agricultural produce.

Mr Kenyatta has since climbed the political ladder achieving the ultimate position by being the 4th President of Kenya from 2013 to date.

Mike Sonko

The current Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko recently admitted being a jail escapee.

In November 2017, Sonko explained that he escaped from Shimo la Tewa Prison in 1998 to attend his mother's burial ceremony.

"You stood by me throughout my childhood and school life. When I escaped from prison to attend my late mum's burial you gave me victory, and I was acquitted," Mr Sonko noted.

He was to be incarcerated at the prison for six months. It is, however, reported that he escaped after colluding with an officer.

In 2001, the Nairobi boss had another brush with the law following forgery allegations. He was supposedly detained at Kamiti and was released on bond.
